Welcome to spring! Well, maybe. I was really excited to have some warm weather here for a few days, I took the laptop outside and soaked up the warmth, but as I write this now I am sitting by the wood stove trying to stay warm. I’m holding good thoughts for an actual spring before the heat of summer is upon us!
This month I’ve compiled all sorts of goodies to share with you. First off, my good friend Heather Moreno is offering an incredible deal, really a blowout sale for her Trainer to Go program. She’s revamping the program and has only a few units left, and she asked if my newsletter readers would be interested in them. Of course, I thought many of you would, considering this program is my fitness coaching in a box! It’s all about coming from a place of motivation, instead of just telling you what to do like most of the other programs out there. And let’s face it, summer is around the corner, despite what the weather is telling us. If you’re ready to take on a formal, customized, program that will fit your lifestyle, Trainer to Go is it. Remember, there are only a few units lefts, so act quickly.
I’ve also included an article by Heather offering some innovative ways to get some fun exercise in this summer. It may give you a “sneak peek” at what you will learn in the Trainer to Go Program.
This month, I also have some cool finds that I have come across in the last few weeks. Hopefully, you’ll find some interesting and/or inspiring things to take advantage of or pass on to someone who could benefit.
Here’s hoping for spring weather soon!

This month I asked my friend Shannon Cherry of Be Heard Solutions to share with my fellow entrepreneurs some tips and tricks to show yourself as the expert that you are. Being seen as an expert is important, people want to work with experts. You already are one, so let everyone else know! Shannon will show you how, read on….
How to position yourself as the expert — even if you don't think you are one
Expertise brings privileges: recognition, referrals and revenue. Establish yourself as an expert as people will then start looking up to your opinions and will trust the products and services that you promote.
But you can't just walk in the door and call yourself an expert. You need to know your subject and present yourself professionally. It involves life-long learning and publicity. Here is how you do it:
Educate Yourself. Get your hands on all the reading materials you can on the area you want to specialize in. Once you have yourself grounded in the body of knowledge of your chosen area of specialization, you can start sharing your knowledge and gain exposure.
Put Your Expertise in Writing. Build a website with quality content. Offer information that can turn your site into a resource. Write free newsletter or create E-zine that visitors need to subscribe to in order to get your expert information. If you have the time and the ability, consider authoring an E-book on your subject of expertise. If an E-book sounds too daunting, start with short articles for online content sites. Hire a ghostwriter, if you're not a great writer or dislike to write.
Keep a Blog. Start a blog where you answer questions from the general public. Whatever your area of expertise is, there is always somebody in need of an answer. Once you have an online voice as an expert, you can then move on to other media.
Make Yourself Available to the Media. You can use the published articles as a base to obtain some speaking engagements and get media attention. Let journalists know you are available for interviews. You can do that by sending them a press kit.
Build a Portfolio. Accumulate copies of press releases, speaking engagements, comments and recommendations, or even printouts of anything where your name is mentioned as an expert source. Put everything together in a folder to make it look more impressive.
Join Associations or Organizations for Your Area of Expertise. Even if you don't qualify for membership at the top organizations, you can still be part of local ones. Not only will you be able to mention the membership in your resume, you will also interact with peers and generate contacts.

Q: How is intuitive eating different from diets?
A: It’s completely different. What most people don’t understand is that you don’t fail at diets - they fail you. By restricting certain foods, diets are setting you up for “diet deprivation backlash”, a term from the book, “Intuitive Eating”, by Evelyn Tribole, M.S., R.D., and Elyse Resch, M.S., R.D. The way I describe this phenomenon is that it is similar to Newton’s law of inertia – for every diet, there is an equal and opposite binge.
For 95 percent of dieters, the end result of each diet is weighing more than when they started the diet, feeling shame and guilt, and wondering why they have no willpower. But willpower has nothing to do with it! Every time you diet, you create a “good” and “bad” food list. Typically your favorite foods end up on the bad list, and your good list often includes food you may not even like. This “black and white thinking” sets you up for thinking about and craving your so-called “bad” foods. And the more you deprive yourself from eating that bad food, the stronger the craving gets. By the time you finally break down and eat it, chances are you will eat a lot more of it than if you had satisfied the craving earlier.
Research backs up this common scenario. For example, researchers studied people trying to gain weight without success. They had these people eating at bedtime, eating a high-fat diet, and other methods thought to put on weight, but none of the subjects gained weight. Then they put these people on a diet. The subjects wound up gaining five pounds after being on a diet because of the diet deprivation backlash. The diet backfired, and they overate and gained weight.
Here’s a summary of one of my favorite studies: Researchers conducted a study of eight-year-old children. The children were put in a room with several bowls of candy and one bowl of baby carrots. The kids were told they could eat as much as they wanted of any of the bowls, except they could not eat from the bowl of carrots. Can you guess what happened? The kids actually ate a greater percentage of carrots than candy just because it had become a forbidden food!
Intuitive eating is a wonderful way to eat because you no longer have to deal with the deprivation of dieting. As a first step, try to reframe your thinking about good and bad food. Bad foods are foods you don’t like – and therefore you should never have to eat them! Good foods are the foods that you enjoy and that make you feel satisfied. You can eat these any time you are hungry! When you eliminate black and white thinking, you have taken a large step towards overcoming emotional overeating and dieting and becoming an intuitive eater.

April 2008

As many of you know, I was a fitness trainer for over 14 years, and I know firsthand the benefits people receive when they work with a personal trainer. Until Trainer To Go, I had never seen a do-it-yourself program that provided safe, consistent advice that resulted in significant, lasting changes. All the other programs I've seen were "get-fit-fast" schemes that reduced your wallet faster than your waistline.
Trainer To Go is different. It works. But you don’t need to take my word for it…
|
"With the help of Trainer To Go I'm comfortably wearing jeans again for the first time since my son's birth 11 years ago."
~ Vicki Ronaldson |
|
"With my current schedule, it is a struggle to fit in exercise. I have always heard that taking the stairs or parking far away would make a difference, but I didn't believe it. Then, the information from the Trainer To Go program and using the pedometer provided made me a believer! By including a little extra activity every day I tripled the number of calories I burn with out that much more effort."
~ Sharon Compono |
|
"If I had to pinpoint the biggest benefit of Trainer To Go it would probably be that it taught me to put myself as a top priority. Thank you both for not only giving me the tools to make exercise a real part of my life but for helping me put the zest back into my life.”
~ Ivonne C. |
If you want to lose weight, have more energy, reduce your cholesterol, reverse your hypertension, or *live longer*, order Trainer To Go today, this blowout sale is going to sell out fast. It's the next-best option to hiring me as your fitness and intuitive eating coach.
Think of it: You could have your own personal training system for less than the cost of two sessions with a personal trainer. And now it’s available for less than the cost of ONE session with a personal trainer – the regular price was $297 and they are blowing it out at $87! This is an amazing deal.

Want to add a fun twist to your exercise program? Need to integrate more calorie-burning activity into your daily habits? These five outdoor activities will have you burning calories for a fitter, more trim body.
- Hula-hoop: You say you haven’t done this since you were a kid? Me neither! My niece works at a medical spa where the doctor recommends Sports Hoop (a weighted hula-hoop) for his patients who want to trim down. The spa sold over 100 hoops in just a few months and their patients are seeing good results. Of course you can borrow the good old-fashioned kind from your kids or buy one at the local toy store.
- Push it: Pushing a stroller during your walk, jog, or rollerblade workout greatly increases the intensity and calorie burning potential of that activity. If you don’t have kids, offer to your friend or family member to baby sit for an hour to workout. I walked hills with my niece in a stroller last month – I also tried simultaneously to sing her a song (yikes) – and felt a significant difference in intensity.
- Forgo the car: Do you frequent a neighborhood store, café, or coffee shop? If it is within a reasonable distance, consider walking. On weekends, make it a family affair.
- Play dates: This week I am meeting two friends for a walk and dinner. If I had not recommended the walk, it would be dinner only. You might be surprised at the response you receive when recommending a play date. Most people jump at the chance for an “excuse” to be active.
- Beach barefoot: walking on an uneven surface uses more muscles (burning more calories) than walking on an even surface. Go to the beach – or other available area – and walk in the sand. Wet sand is fairly easy, but a good place to start. For a better challenge, walk in dry sand. You’ll feel it in muscles you didn’t know you had.

Revolution Money Exchange
I received an invitation to join a new company that seems like competition for PayPal. I got this invitation from a reputable source and joined, and sure enough, they paid me $25! I’m not one to turn down “f*ree” money, and if you aren’t either, I would check this out before May 15th, when this offer appears to be over. Even better, you can make an additional $10 for each person you refer. The people behind this venture are big names, and I figured since I sell on Ebay all the time, it wouldn’t hurt to get signed up now because they will probably become an Ebay partner in the near future. So, check it out, and if nothing else, you can get $25!

Extreme Self Care Special Interest Group
I’ve been a guest on this SIG quite a few times, and it is an awesome group. Check it out! They have calls once a month:
Join us in learning how to practice Extreme Self-Care, and come closer to the peace you desire. We provide support, accountability, and encouragement to help you eat well, exercise regularly, and generally take great care of yourself.
A Life Lesson You Must See
If you haven’t seen this video clip from the Oprah show yet, I encourage you to watch it. This man has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, and he is going around sharing a lecture on how to make the most of your life. Very inspiring.
Five Surprising Reasons You Are Gaining Weight
I came across this article where Dr. Michelle May, author and founder of Am I Hungry? was interviewed. It’s called The Five Suprising Reasons You Are Gaining Weight. It’s a good read!
