Q: Does Intuitive Eating mean only eat when you are hungry? What if I have work? Should I make time to eat breakfast, even if I don't feel hungry? When I don't eat breakfast, I get very hungry later. If I do start eating before work will my body eventually get hungry in the morning?
A: First, let me explain something that many people get confused about when it comes to intuitive eating. This is a non-diet approach to weight management and overcoming overeating and/or obsession with food. It is not, however, a diet. Diets are made up of rules that tell you when, what, how and the amount to eat. You follow the rules, and maybe you will have some temporary success. Intuitive eating does not give you rules, instead you listen to your body and eat in response to your body's needs. YOU are the expert on you, not some so-called "expert".
For the most part, people who eat intuitively do eat because of physical hunger. But they also may choose to eat for other reasons, such as a birthday celebration, eating cookies that just came out of the oven, or various additional reasons. So keep in mind that while one of the principles of intuitive eating is to honor your hunger, you have the choice to eat at other times.
Now, to specifically answer your question. If you aren't feeling hungry in the morning, there are a couple of possible reasons. One might be because you aren't in touch with your body's signals for physical hunger. I often work with people who insist they are not hungry in the morning, but as they relearn what physical hunger feels like again, they start to feel morning hunger on a regular basis. This is what I typically find to be the case. However, if you ate late at night or overate a lot of food the night before, you may actually not be hungry. But if you are experiencing this often, my guess is you just aren't aware of your physical hunger.
As you continue to learn intuitive eating and get in touch with your hunger, you will probably have more of a desire to eat breakfast before you go to work. For now, I would recommend that you do eat something for breakfast to prevent getting hungry when you can't eat. Or if you can eat at work, then prepare something to bring with you when you first feel the hunger.
Many intuitive eaters say they never ate breakfast before because they didn't feel hungry. But by skipping breakfast you are not only going to get too hungry later, you are missing out on a metabolism boost that can burn more calories! These same intuitive eaters now say they are hungry for and eat breakfast, burning more calories and they are back in touch with their bodies.

Walking Rx: Physical activity enables your body to use insulin more efficiently.
Why does walking have such protective effects? Besides helping you get rid of extra pounds, it actually increases the number of insulin receptors on your cells. Insulin helps blood sugar move into cells, where it needs to go. Otherwise, it just sloshes around in your bloodstream, gumming up the blood vessel walls.
If you've already been diagnosed with diabetes, regular walking can help control the progression of the disease. People who take insulin may be able to reduce the amount of medication they need, as physical activity enables their body to use insulin more efficiently
As a bonus, regular walking can help keep your brain sharp. Scientists have observed that older people with diabetes sometimes have problems thinking clearly. In one study, physical activity appeared to stimulate just the type of brain activity that had become impaired. Exactly what it is about physical activity that revs up the brain hasn't been determined. But some experts theorize that exercise-related brain activity could be part of the reason why some folks say they are able to solve sticky problems while they are ticking off minutes and miles on their treadmill.
For all of these reasons, walking may be one of the best diabetes therapies around. If you already have diabetes, walking helps you control the disease and avoid many of its consequences.
According to The American Diabetes Association, you must exercise for at least 30 minutes, three times a week to enhance your body's use of insulin. If your goal is to lose weight, however, you would do well to walk five to seven times each week. But of course, you will want to work up to that level slowly, especially if you have been sedentary. If you skip a day, don't try to make up for it by walking twice as fast or twice as far during your next workout. Vigorous exercise can actually cause blood sugar to rise, especially in people who have insulin deficiencies.
Before you begin a walking program, check with your doctor, especially if you already have diabetes. Your doctor can tell you whether you need to take any special precautions when you work out.

I asked my friend Jenn Givler of J. Givler Coaching to share her wisdom on creating a thriving business. She has unique and exciting ideas about this, and I absolutely love her approach. I think you will, too – and I believe you will find new inspiration from her article.
It is absolutely necessary to create your business the way you want to create it. You have permission to be authentic in your business and to create it exactly the way you want it. Don't think that because other entrepreneurs reached success a certain way, that you have to do things exactly as they do them. If something doesn't feel right to you - don't do it. Conversely, if something feels authentic, inspiring, and energizing to you, then do it - even if it's completely different from the way everyone else is doing it.
For example, I had a client recently who was having a really hard time selling her one-on-one coaching slots. I asked her why she thought that one-on-one coaching was the only acceptable way for her to coach her clients. She thought for a moment and then asked, "well, how else would I work with them." I replied, "any way you want!" And I told her that she could create e-books, or teach group classes - whatever she wanted to do - whatever energized and inspired her!
She got off of our call with renewed energy. She ended up creating a group coaching class, an e-book, and a CD program. Just making that small adjustment allowed her to become renewed and inspired in her business.
If you feel trapped in your business, or you feel stagnated, or you feel like you're creating your business because that's the way you "should" do it, or you feel like your peers would think you were crazy if you did something different... Stop. Ask yourself what you would do differently if you could anything you wanted. Then, ask yourself why you aren't doing that!
We are all unique, and we all express ourselves differently. The way you express yourself through your business will resonate with the people that you're trying to reach - and they need to hear your message exactly as you say it.
You are unique because you are who you are. You are unique because of the way that you connect with your clients and potential clients. Be authentic and just watch as opportunities open up, and your business begins to soar!
If you are feeling stuck, or feeling in-authentic in your business, you could be stuck behind an invisible barrier. Invisible barriers come up for various reasons in our business, and they are different for different people. But, if you feel stuck because of uncertainty, fear, overwhelm, anxiety or frustration, you could be behind an invisible barrier. To learn what the invisible barriers are, and how to start breaking through them, download my free report, "The 5 Reasons You Might Be Stuck - Even If Your Doing Everything Right."
Jenn Givler is the Catalyst for Thriving Holistic Businesses. She shows entrepreneurs the subconscious, invisible barriers that might be holding them back from success. She teaches them how to break through those barriers and step into success. Through group coaching, intuitive readings, and e-books, Jenn motivates, inspires and empowers entrepreneurs to listen to their inner voice, stand in their power and create a thriving business.
